The World Series Primer

Two teams with relentless offenses and dominant starting rotations will face off starting this Friday. Like any good World Series, it may all come down to the bullpens. Both teams have the starpower to put it away. Ohtani versus Vladdy. Snell versus Yesavage. It’s a clash of power, poise and pure baseball brilliance.
But who will claim the crown? Will the Dodgers become the first team to go back-to-back since the 1998-2000 Yankees? Or will the Jays claim their first World Series title since 1993? Either way, history is at stake. So, let’s break down this seven-game showdown.
Impact Players
Shohei Ohtani:
Ohtani is so back. It’s safe to say he finally broke out of his slump in the most important game of the season. In Game 4 of the NLCS, Ohtani put on a “Sho”, slugging three homers to complete the sweep over the Brewers. Fittingly, he won the NLCS MVP – and gained some much-needed momentum heading into the World Series.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.:
Like Ohtani, Vladdy won an MVP award of his own after the thrilling ALCS finale. Unlike Ohtani, Game 7 wasn’t his biggest performance. Vladdy has been raking for the entire postseason, hitting .442 and six home runs. Don’t expect that to stop anytime soon.
Blake Snell:
Speaking of postseason tears, Snell is on one too. Through 21 innings, he’s given up only six hits and two runs while dealing 28 strikeouts. He’s slated to start Games 1 and 5, meaning the Jays likely have to hope for wins outside of those matchups.
Trey Yesavage:
While Yesavage may not be a veteran like Snell, he sure is pitching like one. He may be a 22-year-old rookie, but he’s a huge reason Toronto is even in the Series. It was Game 6: The bases were loaded, there was only one out, and Cal Raleigh was stepping up to the plate. It seemed as good as over. Even the Mariners thought so, as they started to celebrate (just a tad too early). Yesavage pulled off the save, turning a double play to force Game 7.
