The group stage is already in the rearview mirror, and from here on out, the game plan is simple: Win and advance, or lose and go home. If the opening slate of the knockout stage is any indication, weβre in for plenty of drama.
Paraguay delivered the tournament's biggest shock yet by stunning four-time champion Germany in a penalty shootout, while Morocco also advanced on penalties after outlasting the Netherlands. Brazil narrowly avoided the same fate, scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner to escape Japan 2-1 after the match looked destined for extra time. With every game now carrying elimination stakes, the road to the World Cup trophy is officially wide open.
