After New York grabbed the first two games of the series, it seemed like the Finals could turn into another runaway sweep situation for the Knicks. But last night, in Madison Square Garden, the Spurs refused to go down without a fight. San Antonio answered with a 115-111 victory in Game 3 to pull the series to 2-1.
Wemby Woke Up: Victor Wembanyama led the charge for the Spurs, delivering a massive 32-point statement, complete with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Spurs Supporting Cast: Wemby didn’t have to shoulder the entire load, though. Stephon Castle stepped up with a 23-point performance, and De’Aaron Fox hit a defining dagger with 38 seconds left to seal San Antonio’s fate.
Not Panic Time Yet: While New York won’t pull off another sweep, it’s not time to hit the panic button yet. Even in the loss, the Knicks put up an outstanding showing, and they still have the 2-1 edge and home-court advantage for Game 4. Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby combined for a whopping 60 points in Game 3 despite the loss.
