Scheffler Storms Back

Scheffler Captures His 5th PGA Tour Victory This Year Ahead of TOUR Championship

Hey Team 👋

Scottie Scheffler rarely leaves room for suspense, but the BMW Championship delivered a rare twist. Instead of running away with his usual Sunday lead, Scheffler stormed back from four shots down to capture his fifth win of 2025 in dramatic fashion. Now, with the FedEx Cup field narrowed to 30, the TOUR Championship is set – featuring a mix of seasoned champions and fresh faces ready to challenge golf’s world No. 1.

Scheffler Flips the Script

Scottie Scheffler has done it again – but this time, it wasn’t business as usual. Instead of coasting off a Sunday lead, Scheffler clawed his way back from four shots down to win the BMW Championship in dramatic fashion.

Scheffler entered Sunday four strokes off the lead, behind Robert MacIntyre. A four-stroke lead heading into the final round is a nice cushion, but cushions don’t really exist when you’re competing against Scottie Scheffler. MacIntyre stumbled with back-to-back bogeys on his first two holes while Scheffler birdied his opener, halving the lead immediately. On hole No. 7, Scheffler birdied again to claim the lead for the first time all weekend.

On the back nine, MacIntyre managed to stay in contention – that is, until the 71st hole. Standing over a shot in the rough on hole No. 17, Scheffler chipped in to take a two-shot lead heading into the 18th hole, where he finished with a steady par. His comeback win at the BMW Championship was the second largest of his career. It was also his 18th career victory and fifth PGA Tour win in 2025 alone.

Now, the focus turns to the TOUR Championship. The field of 30 golfers has been set, and the event will tee off this weekend at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. To nobody’s surprise, Scheffler holds a massive lead in the rankings. However, the PGA removed the starting strokes format this season, so Scheffler won’t have any advantage heading into the main event – other than his undeniable skill and No. 1 World Golf Ranking.

Unfortunately, 19 golfers watched their seasons come to an end last weekend as the cut was made for the final event. After a promising T6 finish at the St. Jude Championship, Rickie Fowler fell out of contention this weekend, even after tying for seventh. Si Woo Kim, Jason Day, Xander Schauffele and Kurt Kitayama were among other notable players who didn’t make the cut for the TOUR Championship. The good news? 30 golfers are still moving on – and some made huge moves to get there. Take Harry Hall, for example. He went into the BMW Championship ranked No. 45 and finished in sixth place after posting an 8-under on the weekend to climb the rankings to No. 26 and qualify for the TOUR Championship.

Plus, this year’s grand finale will feature plenty of new faces. Seven players are making their TOUR Championship debut this season, including J.J. Spaun (#3), Ben Griffin (#6), Maverick McNealy (#10), Andrew Novak (#15), Harry Hall (#26), Jacob Bridgeman (#27) and Chris Gotterup (#29). On the other hand, we’ll also see some familiar faces, as six former FedEx Cup Champions have qualified for the TOUR Championship. Rory McIlroy has qualified for his eighth consecutive year, holding the longest active streak after Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele were eliminated in earlier rounds. The stage is set: one more weekend and one more trophy.
