Chaos and Clarity
Upsets, statement wins and rivalry drama defined Week 8 of college football, and we finally have *some* clarity
Hey Team 👋
Week 7 of college football gave us a little bit of everything. We saw statement wins from teams like Ohio State and Texas A&M, a huge upset from Indiana, the Red River Rivalry, and plenty of in-conference drama. Meanwhile, Week 6 of the NFL brought — you guessed it — more injuries. Plus, the LCS matchups are underway (more about that on Thursday).

Week 8 AP Poll

I went into the weekend hoping for clarity — to finally separate the contenders from the pretenders. I also said I wouldn’t mind watching the chaos take over and the upsets roll in. Thankfully, we got a healthy dose of both.
Ohio State faced its first ranked opponent since Week 1, and the Buckeyes left no room for doubt, cruising past Illinois 34–16 in a statement win. But the real fireworks came elsewhere.
Indiana delivered the shocker of the weekend, topping No. 3 Oregon and proving the hype is real. Meanwhile, the Aggies also held strong against Florida, refusing to suffer the same fate Texas did in Week 6. Speaking of which, the Longhorns pulled off an upset of their own, knocking off No. 6 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

Week 6 Injury Roundup

Photo: All-Pro Reels / Wikicommons
The NFL injuries continued to pile up in Week 6, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Several key players are trending toward returns in Week 7, while others will use the bye week to fully recover and rejoin their teams in Week 8. Of course, a few are still in the thick of rehab, but the overall outlook is far more encouraging than in weeks past.
Puka Nacua was the latest addition to the injury list, as he went down with an ankle sprain against the Ravens. Fortunately for Los Angeles, the team confirmed that Nacua avoided a major injury and is considered day-to-day. He’s not expected to suit up in Week 7 against the Jaguars, but his recovery timeline shouldn’t extend beyond another week.
Meanwhile, Baker Mayfield continued his impressive MVP campaign, even without his star players. Baker and the Bucs entered the game without Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Bucky Irving – and then lost Emeka Egbuka to a hamstring injury midgame. The good news: Egbuka’s injury is reportedly minor, and both Evans and Godwin are on track to return soon, giving Mayfield offensive reinforcements. Irving, on the other hand, is expected to miss additional time as he recovers from simultaneous ankle and shoulder injuries. On the bright side, Rachaad White is holding down the fort in Tampa Bay.
